Small Parts and Superficial Structures Examination

Service includes the use of ultrasound for the following small part examinations

Breast Ultrasound
This examination looks at the internal structure of the breast assess a palpable lump, to identify the nature of the lump and / or to monitor the size of previously seen lesions.

Preparation for examination:

  • Wear loose blouse to allow easy changing into examination gown

 

 

Thyroid and Parathyroid Gland Ultrasound
This examination is performed to check for the size shape and internal structure of these glands and allow follow-up assessment.

Preparation for examination:

  • Keep your lower neck free of clothing.
  • Collarless shirts recommended.
  • No jewelry should be worn around the neck for the examination

 

 

Salivary Glands Ultrasound
This examination is performed to check for the size shape and internal structure of these glands and allow follow-up assessment.

Preparation for examination:

  • No preparation required

 

 

Scrotum and Testis Ultrasound
The examination is performed to assess a palpable lump, testicular pain, epididymal abnormalities. It is also used to assess the scrotal size and to rule out testicular torsion, hydrocele and varicocele.

Orbits Ultrasound
The examination is performed to assess the retina and vitreous fluid in the eye.

Preparation for examination:

  • No preparation required

 

 

 

Pediatric Hip Ultrasound
The examination checks for dislocation or subluxation of a new born hip joint. This examination is not performed on babies more than 6 months of age.

Preparation for examination:

  • No preparation required

 


Pediatric Cranium Ultrasound
The examination assess the brain parenchyma for bleeds, masses and dilated ventricles of babies less than 6 months of age.

Preparation for examination:

  • No preparation required

 

 


Superficial Structures Ultrasound

  • Small bumps and lumps of the skin are assessed
  • Joints are assessed for effusion or tendon/ ligament injury
