Male Pelvis – Prostate Gland Ultrasound Examination

Prostate ultrasound examinations are performed to assess the size, shape and internal texture of the prostate gland. As well as to assess the urinary bladder appearance and perform with pre and post micturation volume calculations

The examination can be done transabdominal by gliding the ultrasound transducer over the lower pelvic region. However, there are occasions your doctor may require a trans-rectal or internal assessment (TRUS) of the prostate gland

 

 
Preparation for examination:

  • Arrive for the ultrasound examination with full bladder or drink 6 glasses of water 1 hour before your appointment
  • Empty your bowel on the morning of your examination
